Landmark Metro Tunnel opens to public
The Metro Tunnel, a rail infrastructure project set to transform the way we travel across Melbourne, is now open to the public - a year ahead of schedule.
Connecting passengers from the east to the west of Melbourne, the Metro Tunnel leaves Victorians better connected to local jobs, healthcare, key events and landmarks, and will cut travel times.
Five new stations have been constructed, including ANZAC Station on St Kilda Rd, which provides easy access to the St Kilda Rd tram corridor, local jobs in the area, as well as the Shrine of Remembrance and Albert Park.
Let’s not forget, the Liberal Party called this project a ‘hoax’, and never believed it would be achieved.
Well, Labor has done it. The biggest transformation to our rail network in 40 years. And now it’s Victorians who get to benefit.
For residents in Southern Metropolitan, access to Metro Tunnel trains is possible via the Frankston line, on which passengers can change at Caulfield.
Free transport during December and January
To celebrate the opening of the Metro Tunnel, Victorians can access public transport for free during the months of January and February.
So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get out and explore our city on the Metro Tunnel.
