Solar for Apartments providing cheaper, cleaner energy

On a recent visit to an apartment block in Elsternwick, I witnessed firsthand how the Solar for Apartments program is benefiting residents, providing cheaper and cleaner energy for Victorians.

Alongside the Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio, and the Deputy Mayor of Glen Eira City Council, Luca Ragni, I met with representatives from the Owners Corporation to hear how this initiative is helping apartment dwellers.

A third round of the nation-leading program opened on Friday, 19 September 2025, with 5,000 rebates available and applications accepted until 30 April 2025. Rebates of up to $2,800 per apartment are available, up to $140,000 per building.

Solar for Apartments is part of the Victorian Government’s broader $1.3 billion Solar Homes Program.

Since 2018, more than 403,000 solar panel, hot water, and solar battery systems have been installed in households across the state with the support of Solar Homes rebates and interest-free loans.

I’m proud to support this program which supports communities that have traditionally been locked out of solar because of shared roofs and complex ownership structures.

And from July 1 this year, we switched on the SEC. The SEC will power Victorian Government operations with 100 per cent renewable electricity.

With all profits being invested back into projects that will deliver more renewable energy and lower power bills for Victorian families.
